Internal Medicine and Surgery

Internal Medicine and Surgery Services from

Callahan Drive Animal Hospital

At Callahan Drive Animal Hospital, it is our duty to make sure that pets in the local Knoxville area have access to a vet who is going to place the needs of the patient first. That is what we seek to do in our office. Two of the most common services that we provide to our patients are internal medicine and surgery. There are a few points about both services that people need to note.

Internal Medicine

Internal medicine is the subset of medicine that focuses on the care of the body's various organ system. In the human world, internal medicine doctors take care of adults. In the vet world, an internal medicine vet is a general practitioner who covers your pet's healthcare needs.

If someone comes to see a veterinarian in our office for help with internal medicine issues, there are a few problems that we might address. For example, we might help pets who are suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. We can also help pets that are suffering from seizures. Other pets might have developed an infection of some sort. These are some of the most common issues that an internal medicine doctor can address.

The other major field of medicine that we practice at the Callahan Drive Animal Hospital is surgery. We know that pet owners get nervous when they hear that a loved one is going to require surgery. That is why we will answer every question that our families have and only recommend this treatment option as a last resort.

Our surgery team has a tremendous amount of experience. Some of the most common reasons why we recommend surgery include fixing broken bones, removing tumors, and removing foreign bodies. We will do everything in our power to keep your pet out of the operating room, but we do have this service if it is needed.

We watch your pet closely to make sure that he or she does fine during the procedure. We walk you through this process from start to finish.
