Why You Should Call Your Vet Prior to Arriving

Call Your Vet Prior to Arriving

There are certain times when a phone call should be made to the clinic prior to arriving for your appointment. There are multiple reasons why you might want to call before arriving, even after making an appointment. We at Callahan Drive Animal Hospital in Knoxville, TN, are here to help you preserve your pet’s health with routine pet exams, urgent care, and more.

Call Us if Your Pet Has Developed Any New Symptoms

When you first call to make an appointment for your pet, your pet may only be exhibiting some minor symptoms or only a few symptoms. Leading up to the appointment, though, new symptoms may develop. In some instances, this may be a sign of a contagious illness.

Contact our veterinarian office to explain the new symptoms and see if you need to come into the clinic sooner or if you need special steps need to be taken. The latter can reduce the risk of other animals in the clinic catching what your pet may have when you come into our practice.

Call Us if It Is a Pet Emergency

When you have a pet emergency, time is of the essence. However, before simply driving straight to our office, it may be a good idea to contact our staff. You can do this from your home or in the car as you are on your way to the clinic, provided that you are not distracted and are observing all laws concerning device use while driving. This can help allow our veterinary staff to prepare for your visit, which may include gathering medications, supplies, and equipment, so that our veterinarian can begin urgent care treatment on your pet immediately.

  • "Doc Villa ALWAYS takes care of Studly Dudley!! I will ALWAYS recommend Callahan Drive Animal Hospital & their entire team as they truly do care for your animal in the same way you do!! Dr Villa has cared for Dudley for most of his SIXTEEN years & he’s still happy, healthy & strong!! I strongly believe, Stud has made it to this old age so gracefully due to the care he’s been given with this facility!! I would not trust another team than Callahan Animal with my “first child”, the only place for us to go!! Highly recommended!!"

  • "10/10 experience was even better than hoped for. As a snake owner, you hear things about vets that make you question taking them and it was very comforting and nice to have someone who not only helped but took the time to talk about caring for them properly. Thank you guys so much!"
